HistoryRailroad Grade Road was originally an active old Virginia Creeker Railroad that started in 1917. Located in Todd, it is 10 miles of paved road that runs along the banks of the New River and has been voted as one of the best bicycling routes in North Carolina-completely flat, but with scenic mountains, pastoral views, and a cool mountain breeze. You can go and visit the historic General Store and have lunch and ice cream or go to a nearby outfitters to plan a day excursion or rent canoes, kayaks, fishing equipment, etc.
